The past few days have been hardware heaven around here, in a seriously-that-broke-too kind of way. We refinished the coping on our pool, fixed the rain gutter that decided to nose dive during a desert storm, worked on pool equipment, and basically tried to hold down the fort. I might blog about these repairs in the future, but sometimes I feel like the only girl in the world that would rather be on a ladder with a drill than making dinner. Actually I'm pretty sure I'm not... But, hold onto your … [Read more...]

Bathroom Hooks
Kids love anything with their name on it. Or their initials for that matter. A young girl down the street from us was earning money for Christmas and offered to embroider anything I wanted. My response was, “what don’t I want you to embroider!” (I am a sucker for kids selling anything.) Maybe it’s the ownership of it all, but I could give my kiddos the most random object and if I stamped their name on it, instant success. I chose these towels I bought on Black Friday, she did a great job, and I … [Read more...]
Lazily dream, part 2 and working on the treehouse
Summer gets to me, I tell you. After posting yesterday on dreaming about my mountain wonderland I decided to add some touches to the boys treehouse (the big reveal is on August 1). Clouds on the wall, an indoor swing, and a telescope to name a few. Summer is winding down around here, school starts in only 2 1/2 weeks and I just want to savor it with the kiddos. I'm not sure if I have swept the kitchen this week, but this treehouse, well let me just say it is nothing short of spectacular. Here … [Read more...]
Cabin Fever
Image from Apartment Therapy Wow, yesterday was a dreamy day. 10 kids in the pool, lots of sun, lots of fun and a few minutes to daydream (truly one of my favorite things to do) so I really dreamed some whoppers. I saw a TravelZoo amazing deal to China, lots of fun new kids books, but this post by Jordan from Oh Happy Day! was the kicker (we actually grew up in the same town, she is even cooler in person than on her site if you can believe that). Ahhh... a fellow comrade cabin kit-admirer! … [Read more...]
Clothes + Hardware = Art for Nursery Walls
My favorite two baby clothes are the onsie she wore home from the hospital and her blessing dress (made by grandma). I wanted to see them all the time, and as it turns out I needed art for the nursery. I like texture and dimensions. Plain, flat stuff gets boring. Hanging the clothes was the perfect combination... I used a $1 pink hardware knob to display the onsie and dress. Above is a glimpse of one nursery wall. Happy Creating! … [Read more...]
How to paint crisp, clean stripes
I'm kinda lovin' stripes. Baby girl nursery needed a little somethin somethin on the walls, and stripes... well, they sing to me. Are you with me that stripes with fuzzy lines are so not fun? I have tried tons of tape that promises not to leak paint, to alas be left with wavy paint, not straight. Although it requires an extra step, here's how you get straight, clean (oh so clean) stripes on your wall: Materials needed: painters tape paintable caulk (I used white, clear would be … [Read more...]
Baby Girl Nursery
After three little bears I was finally getting my Goldilocks. Last November I brought home a baby girl. I cross my heart have never had a preference on gender. I’m just going for the 10 fingers and 10 toes kind of thing. Three boys is brilliant and although I often admired cute little pony tails and the girls’ clothes section in every store that’s three-times as big and more colorful and fun, I would have sworn to you I didn't care about having a girl… until I found out I got one. When I had my … [Read more...]
Beautiful Life.
Tomorrow is the funeral of my cousin, David. I have to pause and remember him and his beautiful family. I so wish I had words of wisdom and amazing things to say about death and life... but alas I am left feeling reflective and without words. Life is a wonderful thing, I am grateful for mine. I have been stopping lately just to enjoy the little things I love so much, rediscovering the people around me a little bit, and soaking it all in. I hope all of you take a moment today to breathe … [Read more...]
Computer Desk Station Tutorial
I like the computer out in the open so i can see what's going on and what my kids are doing. Computer time is one category that I am kinda a mama bear. We had a sorely unused space in our kitchen that became a major dumping ground: I'm not sure what the previous owners used this space for, but we basically used it for gathering clutter. What we really needed in this house was a place for the kids' computer. A computer desk can be created anywhere, and this was the perfect spot for us! … [Read more...]
