Why I love Community Education Classes

Why I love Community Education Classes

Forget the weekend, Thursday nights are my hands-down favorite. Thursday is the night of my community education class WOODWORKING. By Wednesday I'm giddy thinking of my night class and by Thursday mountains are moved here so I never miss a class. Many people have asked how I learned how to work with wood and build things... here's my dusty little secret, adult community education classes! I'm a huge, huge fan and I think you should be too. And here's why: The teachers are pros at what they do … [Read more...]

Teen Boys Bedroom Reveal

Teen Boys Bedroom Reveal

Many hallelujahs being shouted around here! The boys bedroom is done and they love it. So I love it. The last time I redid a boys' room they were so little, and it was my first post ever! (moment of silence for kids growing up). This time around it was challenging to combine interests of an eight year old and a twelve year old with requests that were worlds apart. One wanted forest the other stars. One loves blue, the other green. Green people! Why is that color so hard for me to decorate with? … [Read more...]

Snowboard Storage Rack - $10 DIY

Snowboard Storage Rack – $10 DIY

Snowboard Storage Rack -- D Add snowboarding to my list of loves. I crazy love being on the mountain! I taught snowboarding at Winter Park in Colorado and despite my disdain for being cold, snowstorms make me giddy. A season pass is the best remedy to any snow storm or cold winter. I'm jealous the east coast is getting pummeled with snow this year and we are so, so dry! Last year I built a DIY ski rack, this year I'm adding a simple $10 snowboard storage rack. It's not fancy, but it does the … [Read more...]

Hanging Bookshelf - Boys’ Bedroom

Hanging Bookshelf – Boys’ Bedroom

Hanging bookshelf boys bedroom The.last.bedroom.project. Done! On man, I am so glad! The hanging bookshelf in the boys bedroom was FUN. I crazy love reading and so do *some* of my children. The moment you walk in our front door there is a new giant bookshelf. It's important to me that each bedroom in the house has a space dedicated to reading. Last week I finished the desk and this bookshelf completes the room (if my kids ever clean it). My oldest son is 12 and sadly has grown out of trucks … [Read more...]

Playroom Ideas - Reader Share

Playroom Ideas – Reader Share

A while ago I turned some playroom ideas into an indoor tree house for my kids. They loved it! Recently a reader, Brian, contacted me on Facebook and shared how he took these ideas to the next level for an indoor playroom/tree house for his son. I am so flattered! And honestly, his son couldn't be luckier. He wrote, "I found you randomly while doing a search for "indoor jungle gym" on Google. I planned on simply building my son a rock wall, but then found your "indoor tree house" and was … [Read more...]

DIY Writing Desk

DIY Writing Desk

The boys bedroom is almost done! Wahoo! The writing desk and a bookshelf are the last two projects needed to complete this room. Well, and then I have to get them to actually clean it. I gotta say, this room is really coming together with custom barn wood dressers, a forest accent wall and an awesome starry night wall. I've also taken down old utility shelves, painted the ceiling, revamped the headboards, added lighting and more. Even after that stuff, the boys really needed a space to study and … [Read more...]

8 Frugal Living Tips from 8 Sisters

8 Frugal Living Tips from 8 Sisters

Does becoming more financially secure top your New Year's resolution list? You're not alone. I haven't blogged about it until now, but if I'm not up late reading about wood and DIY I'm reading about finance. I'm a self-proclaimed cheapskate, real estate investor, stock holder, financial planner and shamelessly frugal... and I learned most of my money-ways from my family. I grew up with seven sisters. Yep, eight girls. Just let that sink in for a bit... EIGHT DAUGHTERS. All girls, no boys. Still … [Read more...]
