Starry Night Sky Accent Wall — Boys Bedroom

Thanks for all the instagram love on this and the forest accent wall in this bedroom. The starry night wall mural is opposite from the forest scene accent wall. I was worried the two wouldn't coordinate, but they surprisingly do. Using the same colors I think pulled it all together. My kiddos are super into stars. Like when we were finished my oldest said, "I hope a real astronomer never sees this, these constellations are not in proportion at all." Well, little buddy, I'm not worried cuz … [Read more...]

Barn Wood Inlay Head Board — Boys Bedroom

I wish I could gaze at barn wood morning, noon and night. I hope black walnut knows I'm not cheating, but really, who can resist a beautiful barn wood? A friend from wood shop gave this wood to me from her uncle's barn in Moab, Utah (and I love Moab!). I used the wood on these IKEA hack dressers, and now these custom barnwood headboards. I am almost finished with the boys' bedroom and the deadline is THIS WEEK because my son is turning twelve. TWELVE! I'm freaking out a little about it, but … [Read more...]

Wood Easter Basket Bunny Shaped Trug

Happy Easter! My husband and I had fun putting together a unique Easter basket for our kiddos with left over wood. Thus, the many varied shapes. I had to purchase the dowel, but I'm okay with that. Spray paint was left overs too, but it works. I'm kind of a spray paint hoarder. Check out the plans by Ana White, easy and so cute! My only suggestion, make sure the holes you drill for the dowel are super straight, it's a pain to assemble if they're not. Wish I had known that on 3 out of 4 of these … [Read more...]

Barn Wood Faced Dresser Ikea Hack

Every once in a while a project just comes together and works out better than I imagined it would, this project barn wood dresser was just that. My inspiration for this project came from West Elm. I love reclaimed wood, but it often comes with a hefty price tag, West Elm's price is $1400. I was able to knock it off and make this gorgeous barn wood dresser IKEA hack for just under 200 smackers. This piece is so beautiful and with a boy about to turn 12 it would be perfect in his room. If … [Read more...]

Forest Wall Mural

The first crush is now a famous artist! Unfortunately, none of his talent rubbed off on me but I did kinda pull off a forest wall mural... the boys bedroom is coming along, thanks to this forest scene. The entry to the room is kinda funky with angles, a closet that juts out, mini hallway-- it was hard to know what to do with it. We live by the Rocky Mountains and we hike, camp, and play in them often. My son really wanted something mountain-esque in his room. I saw an inspiring post by … [Read more...]

New Site — New Projects

Hello friends. If you're new, welcome! If you've been here before, welcome back... my husband recently used this blog as his learning-to-build-a-website project and I think it looks pretty awesome. Nice job, Mikey. Also, I started a new instagram feed which, honestly, is a total blast and I hope you follow along in the fun. It's a new site with new projects. I have soooooo many projects that are done and I'm excited to share on the site like two IKEA hacks I'm kinda crazy about (barn wood … [Read more...]

Designing a Boys’ Teen Bedroom

Sometimes it takes a middle school dance to really knock some sense into you. Last week my oldest son invited me to his Valentine's Day dance and walking into the gym, I gotta tell ya, the B.O. and anxiety took me back about 25 years in a hurry. It was a painful experience even though I remember actually liking middle school. After the cookies were eaten and the fancy dancing was over I came home to his room that looks like a yard sale. And not the good kind. Like if I wanted to be a foster … [Read more...]

How to Attach Boy Scout Patches WITHOUT Sewing

How to Attach Boy Scout Patches WITHOUT Sewing I currently have three boys in scouts and sewing on the patches is such a painful process. Painful times three. Even though every summer as a kid my mom sent me to sewing camp (Sewing camp!) I avoid sewing if I can. I really don't like to attach each and every boy scout patch with a sewing machine. My perfect solution: GLUE GUN. Just take a glue gun to those beautiful boy scout patches instead of sewing. It totally works! It takes a … [Read more...]
