Every once in a while I make something that turns out better than I thought it would. This live edge dining table is just that. I wish y'all could see it in person, it's unique and stunning. I don't know whether to eat on it, or just eat it. I started blogging about this table last year and even completed some finishing touches but I've been waiting for the table base to be finished (I wish I was a welder!) It was a long process, but totally worth it. The table is large, 71" x 38-42" wide, it … [Read more...]
Overhead Garage Storage — Ceiling Mounts
Nothing says love like storage! If you're looking for a Valentine's Day present for yourself or your heart throb, look no further. Flowers die, food gets eaten, storage is forever. We are garage people. Like, we really, really use our garage. Storage, toys, tools, and cars (most of the time). I am constantly cleaning, organizing and dreaming about ways to use the space better. I built overhead storage at our previous house, which was a life saver, so when Fleximounts approached me with an … [Read more...]
Live Edge Walnut Table… Complete!
Best. Table. Ever. FINALLY, after waiting months for the welder to complete the table base, I finally have my table! The process took a while, but it is probably my most favorite project ever and easily the most beautiful piece I have ever created. I love it! Full post this weekend, I just couldn't wait to show a preview picture! Happy Creating … [Read more...]
How to Frame a Mirror
Next to the view having four toilets in this house is the best part of our home. If I could combine the view with the toilets I'd be a pretty happy camper. Since day one I have been a little bummed out (no pun intended) about the extremely builder-grade bathrooms. Framing out the mirrors really helped. For how technically easy this project was it seemed to take me a long time gathering and cutting materials, finishing and caulking. But in the end it's so worth it, the bathrooms look more … [Read more...]

A bright spot in my week- Bloomsy Box Flowers
Occasionally I have the opportunity to review a product. This time around I was really swooning. It's no secret I have a great affection for power tools, but you may not know I'm also a huge sucker when it comes to fresh flowers. As much as I love building stuff, mother nature will always win in that category. The day the Bloomsy Box arrived was a gloomy, rainy morning. When I opened the box I gasped, not only were they a vibrant distraction to the crummy weather, they were exactly like … [Read more...]
Recover an Ottoman - Take Three
Bless my old leather ottoman with sharpie marker art all over. I just recovered it for the third time and I am so happy about the refresh! The old cover was dirty, dated and I was bored of looking at it. Here is take one: And take two (never blogged about): Now three: I love Nate Berkus fabric line at JoAnn Fabric. It's like high design came to visit the little people (me) for a bit. I bought this on a 60% off sale, so the fabric was $8. Eight smackers has never looked so … [Read more...]
Live Edge Table, Metal Base Build
Remember this project? It's my live edge black walnut table I built in the spring. It has been completed for months, I have just been working on finding a welder to make a base. It's finally happening! Today started out buying some remnant pieces at Metal Mart, yep right in between making sack lunches and clearing out Costco I happily shopped for steel: It was a first for me and pretty cool. I rummaged through remnants and came home with 120 pounds of 1/4" and 3/8" … [Read more...]
How To Make a Wooden Cutting Board
Nicole and Danny by Katie Hill My sister-in-law got married this summer to a total rock star. I am so happy for them. I wanted to give her something meaningful but practical so I made a cool cutting board with scrap wood in the shop. To incorporate both of them, and their life ahead, I found wood from where they both grew up and their future. Her family is from California, her fiance is from Washington and they now live in DC. So... walnut from Cali, a beautiful maple from Washington, and an … [Read more...]
Pantry Organization- for less than $60
Do you ever walk through new homes and they have those really cute glass doors on the pantry? Every time I see one I think, "you couldn't pay me to put a glass door on my pantry!" Probably because the majority of the life I have lacked pantry organization and the pantry has looked like this: Yep. Now the world has seen my crazy sloppy food pantry. Hopefully ya'all can keep that on the DL. Although I would have run with the bulls to have this pantry when we were in our apartment, now it … [Read more...]
