I love Halloween. Talk about a holiday that means not-much-of-anything, yet is so fun! Almost every other holiday I bombard my kids with history lessons, what the symbols really mean, and remember the true spirit of.... well, Halloween? I can't really find anything noteworthy about it, it's all about the candy and the costumes! I see great decorations, here are two I love I see everyday during carpool... The first is the best, there is electrical looking wire to it and I can't see it in all her … [Read more...]

Floor Cushion Seats and the BEST Way to Cut Foam
When was the last time you saw the cost of foam at the fabric store!? Highway robbery! So even though the treehouse needed some floor cushions, I wasn't about to pay $40 for just a foam insert. Then I found some outdoor furniture mix-match cushions on clearance for 8 smackers. I took out the cushion (and saved the heavy duty fabric for a future project) and found tree-themed fabric to recover with: The next step was to cut down the foam and puzzle it together so one cushion could make two … [Read more...]
Leave the laundry and watch this.
I have never posted something like this before. I am in the middle of a big project and stopped for three minutes to see it, suddenly life came back into focus. This is worth three minutes of your time. … [Read more...]
Word Sign from Pallet Wood
Yesterday I posted on a word sign I made for my sweet talking four year old. He's the picking-flowers-for-mom-all-the-time kind of guy and says the coolest stuff. I wish the process was as smooth he is, but alas, it was quite painful. He thinks it's awesome, so it was all worth it! It started out great, separating the pallet wood and wood gluing it together with clamps like I did when I made my bracket frame. I cut, sanded, primed (needed when using raw wood) and painted the … [Read more...]
Word Sign Made With Pallet Wood
Every night my four year old says, "Mom, I love you a zillion times without skipping any numbers". It never gets old. I have had a crush on that kid since the moment he was born and he says stuff like that all the time, he's kind of a shmoozer. And it totally works on me. I have been wanting to make a word sign for a while using pallet wood. Tomorrow I will post the tutorial. I might call it "what NOT to do when creating a word sign" because I thought the project would be easy, but I took … [Read more...]
How To Fix Toys (or anything) That Have Battery Corrosion
I am starting a new Friday tradition... Fix it Friday. I can just hear ya'all cheering. The toilet paper holder I blogged about a while ago has me on a rampage of fixing stuff, I hope some of this comes in handy for you. If not, I'll stop. Girl Scouts honor (mmmm, now I want a cookie). Today let's talk about fixing a toy, or anything, with battery corrosion. I think we've all pulled out an old toy or something else battery-operated only to find that the battery has leaked or corroded and the … [Read more...]

Rearranging furniture… save the backache
We can't be the brain and the brawn all the time... have you ever convinced a friend or husband to help you push around heavy furniture only to get it where you wanted it to go and hate it? One evening not too long ago my bff and I pushed furniture around all night long and I would walk around the room murmuring, "no... no... no... okay, sorry but we have to move it again." Followed immediately by his exasperated look and a forced, "okay babe, whatever you think." I have never been one of those … [Read more...]
Decorating with a Piano
So excited doesn't even describe me right now. I have been scouring craigslist for almost two years for the perfect piano for our family. And I finally found just what I was hoping for: Isn't she beautiful!? Well... not yet, but she plays beautifully and her bones are good, which is exactly what I wanted. So, now that the piano is here, how do you decorate with it! In my dreams the space around a piano would look like this: Eclectic Family Room by Redwood City Architects & Designers … [Read more...]
