My sister just bought her first home. Among other requests I will soon blog about she wondered how to fix the chips in her porcelain sink. Okay girls, this is easy peasy and the smallest fixes really brighten up your home and keep it from looking worn-down.
First, clean your sink really well and let it air dry (or use a lint-free cloth.)
Second, use porcelain glaze you can buy from any hardware store. I used “Porc-a-fix Porcelain Touch Up Glaze”, it was about 6 bucks. Match your sink color to the paint color, my sink is white and it matched great. Paint it on like white-out. If the chip is deep and big (dime size or bigger) you will need two coats, for small lines or scratches one coat oughtta do it. Apply and let dry according to your specific glaze instructions.
Chip be gone! Easy project for a glorious after. For some reason it is more fun to do dishes in a pretty sink.

AKA My Mother’s Day wish list. My hubby gave me Mothers’ Day presents even before I was a mother and I confess, my husband gives spectacular presents. Some of my favorites are: a pink adult-sized razor scooter so I could ride with my boys, detailing my van (worth every penny), and last year an awesome pink tool belt. Perhaps this year you could request something different than flowers. In honor of the day I made a list of tools no beginning DIYer can live without. Let’s be honest, I borrow or use a lot of other people’s equipment. Tools are expensive and it seems that I often think I will only use them once. I have a personal rule, I will only borrow something twice (even if it’s months or a year apart) then I feel bad for asking and buy the darn thing on the third go around. Except my dad’s truck. I borrow that baby all the time. All favors aside, here are some tools I could not create without. And hey, a lot of these come in pink now, so hand this list to your hubby and tell him x-na on the flowers, this year you want tools!
Drill. I just love the sound of a charged up drill. You can not get very far without one! I bought a inexpensive Ryobi version and years later I still love it.
Level. You might think something is level and then you use the actual tool and think “seriously?… okay…”. Must have.
Tool Box. Even an old shoe box to keep your tools in. The only thing worse than not having a tool for a project is having the tool and not being able to find it! I finally bought myself a nice tool box Christmas 2011 and I’ve never looked back.
Hammer, Screwdriver, Pliers, Allen Keys. Basic tool kit you can buy at hardware stores for $10 and up.
Work gloves. I loooooooooove my work gloves. I’ve had them for years and if those babies could talk I would totally read their blog.
Measuring Tape. A good one.
Electric Sander. Save your hands, these are not very expensive and even the simplest cheapest ones you will be kissing by project’s end.
Saw. This post is dedicated to my new mitre saw I finally bought. If you are afraid of power tools (trust me, you’ll get over it) start with a small hand saw. I have gotten by with various hand saws for years but for really precise cutting, angles, etc. go for the gold, get a power saw. I was so excited when mine was delivered I took a pic for all to share (above).

(Prelude: This is my first post. Officially. I am Hardware and the party starts now!)
I heart my little boys. Utterly and completely. As a parent I knew I was head-over-heals crazy in love with my sons when hotwheels became fun, power rangers were awesome, and choo choo trains were the coolest things. In fact, girl or boy, when your child’s face lights up your mama heart melts. It’s one of the fascinating metamorphosis of parenting that I love over and over again. I really wanted to create a bedroom for my boys that they would love and be proud of… so I let them design it, literally. Our great friend Josh, is a crazy talented painter. I enlisted his help. I created the canvas, blue sky and green rolling hills and told him what I had in my mind with grassy hills, a road, some hotwheels and said, “Josh, all I am asking for are planes, trains, and automobiles!” We (the boys, Josh, and me) spent about 10 hours in that room that night painting and creating, and it is the best 10 hours I have given my kids in a long time! The room reflects their favorite cars, toys, colors, animals, everything. Shout out to Josh. I hope this inspires some of you, get ready to bleed blue!

We gathered the boys’ favorite toys and Josh free handed them on the wall. I painted grass, helped color in his work, and got more excited with each item on the wall.
Love is in the details. Like dirt in the wheels and exhaust from the race car.
My favorite part of the room is the train. Josh painted the boys favorite animals inside the train, giraffe and lion. He even included a token mouse for their baby brother.

Sometimes having an idea in your head is all you need… and it really does turn out as you imagined. I am not the best artist, but Josh is. I didn’t even pay him, we traded. Cash is so 1999 anyways. If you need/want/dream of something in your house, make it happen. You’ll be glad you did. If you don’t have the money for it, figure out a way to accomplish it without money, like trading.
