We’ve all had buyer’s remorse. Well, today I have a little project remorse. This project has me truly stumped. I started refinishing a really cool mirror I bought at a garage sale

There were some paint chips and it looked old and dated. I immediately wanted to paint it because it was, well, brown and kinda boring but bursting with potential. Plus, I am already swimming in brown around here:

I like brown, I think it’s beautiful, but I think it should be a base and not the only color. I have made a lot of changes to save me from a brown destiny, cornice boxes, pillows, slip covers, to name a few. This mirror was born to be beautiful and pop with color. I began everything right, I primed it, experimented with different colors, and decided to use a dark blue Rustoleum metallic paint:

When the blue was all on I thought, “wow, that is really blue.” So I antiqued it with ebony stain:

And…. I don’t like it. It is growing on me a little bit… the mirror itself is gorgeous, but in the room it kinda feels like wearing a black belt and brown shoes. I want to hang it above the piano (which I will eventually re-stain) but for now I’m not sure if it works.

I think I liked it better brown! What to do!? I don’t think white would look good and would negate my color quandary. My sister suggested I paint it a dusty blue. I have thought about a mustardy yellow but think that would look too much like a sun. What about the textured spray paint options that would make it look stone-ish (but would be hard to ever change)? Or I can leave it and see if it works with the darker refinished piano that is a blaring part of my to-do list. What do you think? Do you like it (you won’t hurt my feelings, just tell it to me straight)? Do you ever finish a project and think, “well, it’s not bad” but you know you did not go through all the effort to have something not bad, but to create something really great! Sometimes I wonder why I try to fix what’s not completely broken. Thoughts?
