Bamboo Frame with Star Crossed Frames

This new year has been crazy! And the flu hasn’t helped move projects along at all… I finally completed a project on my 2014 list. My master bedroom needs a complete overhaul. I am embarrassed to even show the before picture! I actually scored the bedspread from my mom’s good will pile in her garage… it’s amazing what you can find in there:

I added some cool lamps from Pottery Barn, sewed some envelope chevron pillows with left over fabric, and scored a $18 bedspread on Black Friday. I am still deciding on what to do in my room, but it’ll be fun. I have needed something above my bed for a long time. I had a really cool bamboo frame I bought at a service auction, made by a talented friend. I love it, but the shape didn’t work above the bed. So, I decided to swap out the bamboo with an old frame:

The frame was too dark though, so I originally started by painting just the middle. Beginning with primer, taped it all off, but it looked kinda undone:

So, I painted the whole thing white:

FYI If you’re working on a project that requires several coats, save your brush in a ziploc baggie:

After it was white I added stain on top. My favorite trick is to use an old sock for the application and wiping:

Then I took the bamboo out of the old frame, cut it to size and gluegunned (yes a word) it to the back:

Here is the finished product, I love it:

Who says frames are just for art anyway?

Happy Friday and Happy Creating!
