Dollar Store To Buy or Not To Buy
It’s no secret, I think the dollar store is a beautiful place. But when we’re talking about a dollar there is a very fine line between screaming deal and total rip off! I have talked to some of my favorite savvy shoppers and have compiled a list of WHAT TO BUY and WHAT NOT TO BUY. This is a list you will want to keep!
- gift bags, tissue paper
- organizer baskets, bins
- party supplies
- paper goods
- Mylar helium balloons
- light bulbs
- tin foil casserole dishes
- some kitchen utensils like tongs and spatulas
- disposable gloves
- greeting cards (2/$1)
- mailing supplies like bubble envelops and small boxes
- frames
- frozen fruit (depends on location)
- cleaning supplies and scrub brushes
- vases
- medical testing kits (pregnancy, ovulation, even drug tests!) I have a friend that this totally creeps out, but for a dollar, it’s one of the best deals in the store! ha!
Not worth it, even for a dollar:
- Scented candles, they are faint and kinda stinky
- toys are really cheap, break quickly, and leave for disappointed children
- plastic wrap (save the frustration!)
- knives
- batteries, if they live long enough to get them home
- gum
- crayons don’t write well and stain clothing
- food, check the expiration dates before purchasing
- perfumes and body sprays (unless you like smelling stinky)
One of my favorite recent dollar store projects was for my son’s soccer birthday party. I bought all the party-goers a water bottle, soccer towel, and candy bar. I put the names on the water bottles with vinyl letters and the kids were ecstatic about the $2.50 birthday party favor.
This week I am going to post a few projects that I owe success entirely to the dollar store, feel free to let me know your dollar store finds!
Happy Creating!

[…] I love the dollar store, but I am going to anyways. I love the dollar store. As a followup to my Dollar Store Buying Guide, this is a quick, easy project that is totally worth $2. This week one of my sisters showed me her […]
