Barn Wood Inlay Head Board — Boys Bedroom

I wish I could gaze at barn wood morning, noon and night. I don't want black walnut to think I'm cheating on it, but really, who can resist a beautiful barn wood? A friend from wood shop gave this wood to me from her uncle's barn in Moab, Utah (and I love Moab!). I am almost finished with the boys' bedroom and the deadline is THIS WEEK because my son is turning twelve. TWELVE! I'm freaking out a little about it, but he has promised me a million times that he will still be nice to me when he's … [Read more...]

Wood Easter Basket Bunny Shaped Trug

Happy Easter! My husband and I had fun putting together these Easter totes for our kiddos with left over wood. Thus, the many varied shapes. I had to purchase the dowel, but I'm okay with that. Spray paint was left overs too, but it works. I'm kind of a spray paint hoarder. Check out the plans by Ana White, easy and so cute! My only suggestion, make sure the holes you drill for the dowel are super straight, it's a pain to assemble if they're not. Wish I had known that on 3 out of 4 of these … [Read more...]

Barn Wood Faced Dresser Ikea Hack

Every once in a while a project just comes together and works out better than I imagined it would. Barely every once in a while. This project was just that. My inspiration for this project came from West Elm: I looooove this piece and with a boy about to turn 12 it would be perfect in his room. If it wasn't for that darn price tag. Priming for an IKEA hack, right? I bought the MALM dresser: A friend had this awesome barn wood from her uncles cabin in beautiful Moab, Utah she gave … [Read more...]

Live Edge Dining Table

Every once in a while I make something that turns out better than I thought it would. This table is just that. I wish y'all could see it in person, it's unique and stunning. I don't know whether to eat on it, or just eat it. I started blogging about this table last year and even completed some finishing touches but I've been waiting for the table base to be finished (I wish I was a welder!) It was a long process, but totally worth it. The table is large, 71" x 38-42" wide, it varies with the … [Read more...]

Live Edge Walnut Table… Complete!

Best. Table. Ever. FINALLY, after waiting months for the welder to complete the table base, I finally have my table! It is probably my most favorite project ever and easily the most beautiful piece I have ever created. I love it! Full post this weekend, I just couldn't wait to show a preview picture! Happy Creating … [Read more...]

How to Frame a Mirror

How to Frame a Mirror

Next to the view having four toilets in this house is the best part of our home. If I could combine the view with the toilets I'd be a pretty happy camper. Since day one I have been a little bummed out (no pun intended) about the extremely builder-grade bathrooms. Framing out the mirrors really helped. For how technically easy this project was it seemed to take me a long time gathering and cutting materials, finishing and caulking. But in the end it's so worth it, the bathrooms look more … [Read more...]

How To Make a Wooden Cutting Board

How To Make a Wooden Cutting Board

Nicole and Danny by Katie Hill My sister-in-law got married this summer to a total rock star. I am so happy for them. I wanted to give her something meaningful but practical so I made a cool cutting board with scrap wood in the shop. To incorporate both of them, and their life ahead, I found wood from where they both grew up and their future. Her family is from California, her fiance is from Washington and they now live in DC. So... walnut from Cali, a beautiful maple from Washington, and an … [Read more...]

Live Edge Table Finishing Touches

Now I know why people charge so much money for live edge tables. I'm so excited I'm almost finished, thrilled to see it in the home, but also excited just to be done! I filled the holes with epoxy (I'll talk about this later) And trimmed the edges. One of the best parts of woodworking is that you smell delicious from shavings. I am trying to decide on the base, need to finish the top and then... let the eating begin! Happy Creating … [Read more...]

Laundry Room Reconstruction & Remodel

Before I start this post, I would like to apologize to my ancestors and many friends around the world that hand wash clothing. I'm ungrateful, I know. I hate my laundry room. In all fairness I kinda hate doing laundry, so it's only fair... It's small, dark, boring and doesn't use the space well. Here is what I'm working with: The room is 8.5 feet long and 5.5 wide and has ONE cabinet. It's a builder grade room, barely. Yes, it's much better than a closet or (cross your fingers) … [Read more...]
